AS/COA Immigration Research Featured in White House Report
A White House report on the economic benefits of immigration reform features research by AS/COA and the Partnership for a New American Economy.
Americas Society/Council of the Americas is pleased to announce that the White House featured research by AS/COA and the Partnership for a New American Economy (PNAE) in a report released today. The Economic Benefits of Fixing Our Broken Immigration System highlights a June 20 report by AS/COA and PNAE, which found that the 40 million immigrants in the United States have created $3.7 trillion in housing wealth, helping stabilize less desirable communities where home prices are declining or would otherwise have declined.
The White House report explains that "immigrants help boost property values by increasing the demand for housing, as well as for other locally produced goods and services." Furthermore, says the report, "immigrants stabilize and revitalize communities facing declining home values, encouraging other middle- and working-class Americans to move to and settle in these communities. Immigrants revitalize less desirable peripheral neighborhoods in costly metropolitan areas by moving into these harder hit neighborhoods, driving demand through their own purchasing power, and then drawing U.S.-born individuals to these areas."
