Book Launch - A Fragmented Continent: Latin America and the Global Politics of Climate Change
Join AS/COA as Guy Edwards and J. Timmons Roberts present their book, A Fragmented Continent.
Overview
This December, delegates at the 2015 Paris Climate Conference—best known as COP21—will attempt to reach a universal agreement on climate policy in what many experts see as the last opportunity to keep global warming at safe levels. Join Guy Edwards and J. Timmons Roberts as they present their book A Fragmented Continent: Latin America and the Global Politics of Climate Change, which analyzes the region’s three major blocs at the UN climate negotiations, addressing political, economic, environmental, and societal issues. Edwards and Roberts will discuss the challenges Latin American countries face in balancing policies to limit climate change with goals of economic growth, as well as why the region plays an important role in global climate negotiations.
Speakers:
- Guy Edwards, Research Fellow, Institute at Brown for Environment and Society; Codirector, Climate and Development Lab
- J. Timmons Roberts, Ittleson Professor of Environmental Studies and Sociology, Brown University and Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution
- Sarah Bons, Editor, Americas Quarterly; Policy Associate, Americas Society/Council of the Americas (moderator)
