Brazil in 2014: Economic and Political Prospects
Join AS/COA for a panel discussion on Brazil's economic and political prospects ahead of elections and the 2014 World Cup.
Overview
2014 is a crucial year for Brazil. President Dilma Rousseff, whose approval rating has fallen dramatically since the street protests in 2013, will seek reelection amid the country’s slow economic growth and rising inflation. Major cabinet shifts are expected, as Rousseff’s chief of staff and a few ministers are to leave the federal government to run for state elections. Meanwhile, all political changes and preparation for the elections will take place while Brazil hosts the World Cup.
Will the economy grow at a faster pace in 2014? How will the protests shape the elections? How will the elections impact Brazil’s macroeconomic policy? Can the next administration, in conjunction with private sector, address Brazil’s infrastructure bottlenecks?
Please join Americas Society/Council of the Americas for a public discussion on Brazil’s economic and political prospects for 2014.
