The works of Jorge Luis Borges and Ástor Piazzolla are an important part of Buenos Aires’ distinctive artistic voice. Americas Society and TeatroStageFest celebrate these artists’ visions with an intimate conference featuring Jorge Luis Borges’ widow and longtime friend of Americas Society Maria Kodama, Piazzolla’s grandson Daniel Piazzolla, and Hernán Lombardi, Minister of Culture of the city of Buenos Aires. The conversation will be moderated by WQXR’s Terrance McKnight.

The evening will also include a preview performance of the concerts that Escalandrum and award-winning tango dancer Viviana Laguzzi will play over the weekend at Birdland and Queens College.

The panel will discuss two initiatives that celebrate these artists: the exhibit Atlas by Borges, a touring display of photos taken by Kodama during her world travels with Borges with texts by the author, opening October 4 at Instituto Cervantes, and Piazzolla plays Piazzolla, by Escalandrum, a jazz sextet led by Piazzolla which serves as a tribute to his grandfather.
