Overview

Founded in 2013, Young Professionals of the Americas (YPA) is a member initiative of AS/COA that provides a platform for young professionals to connect around the latest trends in the Americas through its New York City, Miami, and Washington, DC chapters.

YPA Mission Statement
The mission of YPA is to build a network that engages, connects, and inspires future leaders passionate about Latin America through professional development and social events.

Events
YPA hosts regular members-only events in each of its three chapters, including panels, dinners, gallery tours, site visits, and more. YPA members also have access to selected AS/COA events and conferences.

Nathalie M. de Almagro
Nathalie M. de Almagro

Nathalie M. de Almagro serves as commercial counsel for NBCUniversal. In this role, Nathalie provides legal advice regarding NBCUniversal’s operations in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a focus on distribution deals, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance. Prior to joining NBCUniversal, Nathalie was an associate within the Litigation, Arbitration, and Employment practice group of Hogan Lovells US LLP. Her practice focused on representing clients spanning a range of industries, including health care and transportation, in a variety of complex litigation and arbitration matters, while also maintaining an active pro bono practice. In 2019, Nathalie graduated first in her class from Florida International University College of Law, where she also served as executive managing editor of the FIU Law Review and founding board member of the FIU Business Law Society. As a proud Cuban American, Nathalie is passionate about celebrating the virtues of Latin America and the Caribbean as well as finding solutions to the challenges facing the region.

Ernesto Arguello
Ernesto Arguello

Ernesto Arguello is a banker at JP Morgan Private Bank, where he advises wealthy individuals and families from Latin America, with a focus on tech entrepreneurs, family offices, privately-held business owners and executives of public companies. He works closely with an integrated team of specialists to provide customized wealth management solutions, including investing, wealth structuring, fiduciary services, philanthropy, banking, and credit, among others. Prior to joining JP Morgan’s Private Bank six years ago, Ernesto worked in corporate and personal tax atPwC in Boston and New York. Ernesto is an ex-top 500 (ITF) junior tennis player in the world and was team captain for a Division I men’s varsity tennis team leading the team to two NCAA Championship appearances. Ernesto lives in Miami with his wife Melissa and their son Alejandro.

Matteo Ceurvels
Matteo Ceurvels

Matteo Ceurvels, as a member of the international content team at EMARKETER, is responsible for researching, analyzing, and staying up to date on the latest digital trends across Latin America and Spain. His main areas of focus include: ad spending, ecommerce, retail media, social media, consumer behavior, among others. Matteo has more than 15 years of experience in building strategic communications, marketing, and research initiatives in both the private and public sectors—including the United Nations and his own digital consulting agency, MCS Global Media. Matteo is proficient in nine languages and has regional expertise in developing digital strategies throughout Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East. Matteo is a frequent speaker at regional industry events—including Advertising Week Latin America and IAB Beyond Digital—as well as local ones hosted by the Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CCS), the Argentine Chamber of Ecommerce (CACE), Mexican Association of Online Sales (AMVO), among others. Matteo graduated summa cum laude from Pace University in NYC with a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies and a double minor in Political Science and Middle Eastern Studies. In his free time, Matteo teaches foreign languages and guest lectures on topics pertaining to Latin American political and economic development. His writing has appeared in a variety of political and marketing blogs, scholarly journals, as well as literary magazines.

Mario Di Giovanni
Mario Di Giovanni

Mario Di Giovanni is a Government Affairs Advisor for the FedEx Express Regulatory and Government Affairs team in Miami, where he supports the company’s strategic government affairs initiatives, including the strengthening of data and intelligence gathering, as well as regulatory and legislative monitoring in key areas for our business. Mario also supports with the development of materials for relevant government engagements and advocacy opportunities throughout the region. Mario joined FedEx Express in 2019. Prior to joining FedEx, Mario was an Intelligence Analyst for Guidepost Solutions, and Political Consultant at Newlink. His previous experience includes work in public affairs, political consultancy, communication strategies, and private investigative matters for Fortune 500 companies, in the U.S. and throughout the LAC region, particularly Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador and Dominican Republic. Mario holds a Master of Arts in Global Affairs, a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Economics, and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance, all from Florida International University.

Andreas Farge

Andreas Farge is a Manager at Socorro Partners with 4+ years of consulting and market research experience. Prior to joining the firm, Andreas was a Director at Americas Market Intelligence, and its subsidiary Payments and Commerce Market Intelligence, serving Fortune 500 companies across various industries, including the payments, logistics, and mining sectors. Andreas led international teams for projects of global scope, looking at Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and Asia-Pacific (APAC), while delivering insights and solutions that drive business growth and innovation. Andreas currently serves as a Steering Committee Board Member of the Young Professionals of the Americas, a networking initiative from the Americas Society and Council of the Americas that provides a platform for young professionals to connect around the latest trends in the Americas. Andreas holds an undergraduate degree in International Affairs with a concentration in International Economics from The George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs. In 2019, Andreas participated in a CIEE program, studying at East China Normal University in Shanghai, China while interning at Greenroad International Logistics, a prominent Chinese logistics company involved in China’s Belt & Road Initiative. Andreas holds certifications in FinTech Law and Policy from Duke University and Foundations of Project Management from Google.

Allie Fleder
Allie Fleder

Allie Fleder is the COO and a founding team member at SimplyWise, a fintech empowering better decisions for modern retirement. She previously founded and ran Sherpa, a British luggage delivery platform for busy travelers that was acquired in 2019. Before starting her own business, she consulted for a number of VC-backed startups in London and NYC. Allie began her career at the Americas Society/Council of the Americas, where she served as the chief of staff to the president. In that role, she worked with entrepreneurs and tech companies to help them scale up their operations in Latin America. She is a founding member and former Executive Director of the Young Professionals of the Americas network. She is a board member and former Chair of EUROUT, Europe’s largest LGBT+ business conference, and serves on the Digital Corps leadership team of Out in Tech. Allie received a bachelor of arts in Latin American studies from Columbia College and an MBA from London Business School, where she was a 50th Anniversary Scholar.

Kelsey Flitter

Kelsey Flitter is the Founder and Principal at Rubi Group, a boutique communications consulting agency based in Miami. Rubi Group specializes in U.S. and Latin American markets, integrating sustainability, diversity, and social responsibility into client strategies. In her role as Founder, Kelsey has grown Rubi Group’s client portfolio to include Fortune 500 companies, pan-regional non-profit organizations, and top business organizations, leading the Rubi Group team to build purposeful strategic communications, branding, and marketing programs. Kelsey’s passion for Latin America has led her to live throughout the region, namely in Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, among others, enriching her regional insight and experience. She holds a B.A. and M.A. in Latin American Studies and Communications from the University in Miami.

Juan Carlos Freile

Juan Carlos Freile is the CEO and a founding partner at Tiempo Capital. Previously an executive director and banker at J.P. Morgan Private Bank, he advised wealthy individuals and families in the United States Puerto Rico, and Latin America, where he was responsible for over $2B in client relationships. For nearly 15 years in his former role at J.P. Morgan, Juan Carlos led an integrated team providing customized wealth management solutions including investing, wealth structuring, fiduciary services, philanthropy, banking and credit. Previously, he worked in Investment Banking, at Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York City, advising and executing for Latin American institutional clients with trading and hedging solutions in Fixed Income, Currencies, and Commodities. Juan Carlos received his B.A. in Economics and History cum Laude from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, with a Full Scholarship, where he was recognized as a Presidential Scholar. He also studied at University College London (UCL), University of London as a Research Scholar of early 20th century financial history. For the past decade, he has been a CFA charter holder and a member of the CFA Society of Miami. Juan Carlos is actively involved with his alma mater, interviewing High School student applicants in Miami and Latin America. He is on the Steering Committee for the Miami Chapter of the Young Professionals of the Americas/Council of the Americas. Juan Carlos lives in Miami with his wife and their two children.

Pia Fuentealba

Pía Fuentealba serves as the chief of staff to the president and CEO of Americas Society/Council of the Americas and the executive director of the Young Professionals of the Americas. Prior to this, she led the media relations department at AS/COA since 2018. Her efforts promoted the organization throughout the United States and Latin America through the placement of Americas Society and Council of the Americas programs in news outlets, Pía also managed interviews for AS/COA's experts. She came to New York from Chile in 2016 to complete a M.S. in corporate communications and public relations at New York University. In Santiago, she worked at a public relations firm and previously at an energy multinational company.

Elizabeth Gonzalez

Elizabeth Gonzalez is a Research & Content Development Manager for Bloomberg New Economy, advancing the goals of the Cities, Climate, Health, and Trade Councils and organizing solutions-oriented roundtables. Previously at AS/COA, she spent 5 years researching economic and political trends in Latin America for as-coa.org and traveling throughout the region to produce the livestreaming and associated media content of AS/COA conferences. Elizabeth completed a master’s in Economic Policy Management at Columbia University’s SIPA in May 2020, and a dual Bachelor's in Journalism and Political Science at New York University in 2014. Born in Havana and raised in Miami, she calls New York City home but considers herself a citizen of the world.

Chase Harrison

Chase Harrison is the editorial manager at Americas Society/Council of the Americas Online. In this role, he produces digital content on Latin American politics and economics, including articles and infographics. He also is one of the rotating interviewers on AS/COA Online’s Latin America in Focus podcast. Prior to AS/COA, he completed a MPhil degree in comparative politics at the University of Oxford where his work focused on populist parties in Central America and Mexico. For his thesis, he completed fieldwork throughout Mexico City, where he also worked as a political risk consultant. Chase has extensive experience in political campaigns across the U.S. and once held the title of New Jersey’s youngest elected official. In his spare time, Chase is an award-nominated globe-trotting comedian. Have you seen him perform in England, Scotland, Mexico, the Netherlands, or the United States? Probably not.

Kate Kiewel

Kate Kiewel is currently a Vice President at Bicycle Capital, the largest growth equity fund dedicated to Latin America backed by prominent institutions like Mubadala Capital and Claure Group. Kate leverages her background across investing, fundraising, and operating. Prior to her role at Bicycle Capital, Kate was the Founder and CEO of Khora, a Mexico City-based platform focused on elevating innovation in Latin America through capital, talent, and mentorship. This venture underscores her deep understanding of the regional dynamics, global trends, and her ability to bridge the gap between global markets and Latin America. Kate spent her early career at The Carlyle Group, 1776 Ventures, and a private single-family office. With a human-centered approach, she has cultivated a successful track record of investing in fintech, govtech, and enterprise startups, including notable early investments in companies such as Clair, The Guild Education, and MPower Financing. Kate's educational background in Finance and Management from Lehigh University, coupled with her formative years at Shattuck St. Mary's boarding school in Minnesota, have instilled in her a strong foundation for her professional endeavors.

Felipe Marin

Felipe Marin spearheads Eurasia Group's business expansion in Miami and Latin America. He works with global and local firms to integrate political risk into their decision-making processes and investment strategies. Prior to joining Eurasia Group, Felipe worked for a series of internationally prominent institutions such as the Foreign Policy Association, Human Rights Watch, and the Americas Society/Council of the Americas. Originally from Cali, Colombia, Felipe holds a bachelor's degree in liberal arts with a concentration in government from Harvard University. Though based in Miami/New York, he is usually found either traveling in Latin America on business or exploring new destinations around the world.

Alvaro J. Muñiz

Alvaro J. Muñiz is a project manager/business analyst for academic innovation and new ventures at George Mason University. In this role, he provides support and analysis for new high-impact growth strategies across the university. Prior to joining Mason, he worked at Ashoka supporting numerous domestic and international social entrepreneurship projects. He also served as a deputy chief of staff with the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners working on technology ecosystem initiatives along with policy research and strategy. While in Miami, he was a graduate of Leadership Miami’s 35th class. Alvaro holds a JD from Saint Louis University School of Law, a BA in Political Science from Providence College, and a Sports Impact Leadership Certificate from Johns Hopkins University.

Lucas Penchas

Lucas Penchas is currently engaged in cutting-edge machine learning research specializing in exotic derivatives at Harvard Business School on behalf of a sovereign wealth fund. His professional journey includes experience in investment banking at Goldman Sachs and corporate development at Ualá. Additionally, Lucas is a board member at the Global Markets Association and has showcased his research at prestigious platforms such as the World Economic Forum in Davos. Originally from Argentina, he has lived in various countries and speaks English, Spanish, Swiss-German, and Russian.

Alberto Peralta Ramos

Alberto Peralta Ramos joined Morgan Stanley in 2016 as part of the Wealth Management Division. Previously, Peralta Ramos was part of the Global Asset Management Analyst and Associate Programs at J.P. Morgan in New York and Miami. Peralta Ramos graduated with a BS in economics and finance from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL. He enjoys practicing sports (soccer, golf, and tennis), transcendental meditation, and spending time with family and friends. Peralta Ramos is also fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.

Vanessa Perez
Vanessa Perez

Vanessa Perez currently serves as government relations director for the Television Association of Programmers Latin America, a trade association representing Pay-TV content producers in legal and government relations issues in the region. Perez previously spent two years working in the Latin America practice of the DC-based strategic advisory firm McLarty Associates, where she supported the consulting efforts of the company’s managing partner and led the region’s research team. She also has experience interning at the US Trade Representative’s Office and the Department of Education, as well as serving as a summer teacher for the NGO Breakthrough Collaborative. Originally from Colombia, Perez is fluent in Spanish and professionally proficient in Portuguese. She holds degrees in economics and international relations from American University and spent a semester studying in Brazil at the Pontificia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro. She is a member of the Executive Committee for the Miami Professional Chapter of the national PorColombia organization, focused on promoting cultural, professional, and philanthropic activities related to Colombia.

Miriam Psychas
Miriam Psychas

Miriam Psychas is a Program Officer on the US Institute of Peace’s Latin America Program. She serves on the team spearheading USIP’s recent programmatic expansion into Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. She currently leads the Youth portfolio in Central America and is the primary project coordinator for El Salvador. Miriam has previously lived and worked in Colombia (Bogotá and Medellin) and Cuba (Havana) and holds a range of experience across sectors (development, education, entrepreneurship) always with an eye to building bridges across political, socio-economic, and cultural divides. She holds an MA in International Peace Studies from the University of Notre Dame’s Kroc Institute, where she focused her work on reconciliation mechanisms, and in particular transitional justice and trauma healing. She holds a BA from Harvard College in History & Literature of Latin America and Sociology.

Nidia Martínez Quezada

Mg. Nidia Martínez Quezada is a distinguished professional in Digital Transformation, Strategic Planning, and Business Development. Her insights and vision have gained widespread recognition through publications in critical areas essential for business success. With a profound understanding of the digital era, she has effectively spearheaded Digital Transformation initiatives in both the public and private sectors. In 2023, she established the consultancy firm Digital Bridge Partners, serving government agencies and companies grappling with the challenges of digital transformation and innovation. Her career encompasses leadership roles at Visa Inc., where she served as the Head of Government Solutions for Latin America, as well as positions in the Dominican public administration, notably the Superintendency of the Securities Market and PRODOMINICANA. She holds an LLM in International Law, Foreign Trade, and International Relations from the Specialized Institute of Law and Economics (ISDE) in Madrid, Spain, and a Bachelor's degree in Law from the Pontifical Catholic Mother and Teacher University (PUCMM) in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Facundo F. Robles
Facundo F. Robles

Facundo F. Robles is the Program Coordinator of the Wilson Center’s Latin America Program in Washington, D.C. Prior to this position, Facundo served as the President of the Latin America and Caribbean Policy Association (LAPA) at Georgetown University and co-founded the Iberoamerican Council of Political Leadership (ICPL), which convenes monthly meetings with regional leaders to discuss public policy. He was also a Research Assistant at the Wilson Center's Latin America Program. Before his time at the Wilson Center, Facundo worked at the Investment and Foreign Trade Promotion Agency (InvestBA) under the Ministry of Economic Development of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he supported foreign investment and trade initiatives. He also served as a Teaching Assistant at the School of Business and Economics at Universidad Nacional de San Martín (UNSAM), and as an Economic Advisor at the Center for Economic and Urban Studies (CEEU). Currently, he serves on the Advisory Board of the Latin American Leadership Program (LALP) at Georgetown University, and is a professor of Public Management at the National Defense University of Argentina. Facundo is a former Fulbright scholar and holds a Master’s in Public Policy from the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University and a Bachelor’s in Business Management from Universidad Torcuato Di Tella in Buenos Aires. His academic interests include the study of elections, democratic transitions and the role of the international community in Latin America.

Michael Seitz
Michael Seitz

Michael Seitz is a member of BlackRock’s Investment Stewardship group. At BlackRock, his work involves global communications and policy surrounding key corporate governance issues at major public companies. Mr. Seitz is a rising leader and dedicated volunteer also involved with the Corporate Leadership Board of SuitUp, an education-focused nonprofit, and JUST Capital’s JUSTGen professional network. Mr. Seitz graduated with honors from the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University, where he remains engaged as the Co-Chair of the Alumni Association’s Finance Council.

Jorge Setoain

Jorge Setoain is a vice president at JP Morgan Mexico, as part of the New Business Development Team, he leads the Tech Disruptors Vertical working with founders, startups, VCs and LPs of the tech ecosystem. Jorge strives to drive connectivity for prospects and clients across JP Morgan’s ecosystem and Lines of Business, creating unique network effects. Prior to joining JP Morgan, he was a Private Wealth Advisor at Silicon Valley Bank in NYC, where he worked with Founders and General Partners of VC and PE funds in NY, Miami and Latam. Prior to joining SVB, he was an Associate Banker, VP at Citi Private Bank’s Institutional Clients Group, covering ultra-high net worth individuals and Family Offices in Mexico. He started his Private Banking career at Morgan Stanley as a Wealth Advisory Associate in New York. In 2014, he moved from Spain to New York to join 32 Advisors a cross border advisory firm. He began his career at the American Chamber of Commerce in Spain. Jorge earned his bachelor’s degree in international business and marketing from ESCI-Universitat Pompeu Fabra and is currently studying the Venture Capital and Private Equity Executive Education program at Columbia Business School.

JC Torres

JC Torres (he/him) is an officer, Foundations and Trusts, Americas for the International Rescue Committee (IRC). Prior to his current role, JC served as the development manager in IRC Tallahassee and IRC Miami. Originally from Bogota, Colombia, JC arrived with his family in Miami at a young age and went on to receive a master’s degree in management from Lipscomb University and a bachelor's in humanities & social sciences, with a double minor in criminal justice & sociology from Cumberland University, both in Tennessee. A fluent Spanish speaker, JC served as associate director of development for Conexion Americas, an organization dedicated to the development of Tennessee’s Latino community, which followed his work as the director of community giving for TECHO US, a youth-led non-profit working to overcome extreme poverty in Latin America. JC was also the executive director of Ride for Reading, an organization that promotes literacy and healthy living among children in low-income communities.

Andrés Varona

Andrés Varona is a business development manager at White & Case LLP, a leading global law firm. At White & Case, Andrés develops proposals and multilingual marketing materials for corporate (e.g. agriculture, aviation, construction, mining, oil & gas, renewables) and sovereign clients (e.g. ministries, multilaterals, SOEs) related to high-stakes, cross-border disputes. He also manages firm-organized and external events for White & Case’s Latin American Arbitration practice, and serves as the BD liaison for the Firm’s Business & Human Rights global interest group. Prior to joining White & Case, Andrés consulted for a number of agribusinesses, non-profits, and advisory firms doing work in and around the Western Hemisphere. Previously, he interned at the Americas Society/Council of the Americas, where he supported the planning and logistics of the 42nd Annual Washington Conference on the Americas. Andrés earned both his BA and MA from The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs. A Native of Cali, Colombia, Andrés is fluent in English and Spanish. Having lived and studied in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, he also has a professional working proficiency in Portuguese.

The YPA Steering Committee comprises the network’s leadership. Selected members represent a variety of sectors and backgrounds, and offer their professional experience to develop fun, entertaining, and enriching programs. They also enjoy additional, elite benefits.
