AS/COA Women's Hemispheric Network
Globally, women make up only 31 percent of board directors. Moreover, only 44 companies listed in the Fortune 500 annual list have women CEOs. And according to UNESCO, only 30 percent of professionals working in technology today are women. Although in recent years, progress has been made across gender equality indicators, more ambitious efforts are needed to address the barriers that hold women and girls back.
With that in mind, Americas Society/Council of the Americas launched the Women’s Hemispheric Network in 2012 to provide a forum for women and male allies to convene and discuss opportunities for advancing gender equality.
Building on that success, WHN went global in 2013, hosting a series of events across the Americas, including in Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Lima, Mexico City, Miami, Panama, Santiago, and São Paulo. During the pandemic, we engaged more professional women and male allies across the hemisphere than ever before through our virtual programming, consisting of over 70 events. Now, we are back in person with conferences in New York, Miami, and across the region.
“I leave inspired and certainly will pass this inspiration in the actions with the 200,000 women entrepreneurs from my network.” –Ana Fontes, founder of Rede Mulher Empreendedora, after the WHN Brazil conference |
