In conjunction with the opening of the 66th Session of the UN General Assembly, Americas Society and Council of the Americas hosted a series of public programs with presidents of Latin Americas. Access materials from the programs below.
 
Felipe Calderón, President of Mexico: Americas Society presented Felipe Calderón with the Gold Insigne, the organization’s highest honor, in recognition of his accomplishments as president of Mexico. “The name of the game in this world today is competitiveness,” said the president in remarks emphasizing the need for deeper North American economic integration.

Laura Chinchilla, President of Costa Rica: The president emphasized  her country's commitment to education, the development of infrastructure, free trade, fiscal reform, and regional security.

Juan Manuel Santos, President of Colombia: The president outlined Colombia's strategies to expand its trade relations globally while providing an overview of the country's economic successes. He said the country is experiencing a period of optimism and is forecasted to see a growth rate of 5.5 percent in 2011.

Sebastián Piñera, President of Chile: In a discussion focused on innovation and investment conditions in Chile, the president reiterated his administration's goal of defeating extreme poverty in Chile by the end of its mandate and creating a path toward eradicating poverty by the end of decade.

Ollanta Humala, President Peru: President Humala of Peru discussed how his new government will expand initiatives focused on social inclusion and education.
