AS/COA Announces Support for Think Asia, Think Hong Kong in New York

The June 11 symposium brings together companies wanting to explore new markets and business opportunities emerging in Asia.

New York, May 20, 2013 Americas Society and Council of the Americas are pleased to announce their support of the symposium Think Asia, Think Hong Kong, an event organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) to bring together companies who want to explore new markets and business opportunities emerging in Asia and the Chinese mainland. Think Asia, Think Hong Kong will take place in New York on June 11, 2013 and Los Angeles on June 14, 2013.

Think Asia, Think Hong Kong will offer business access to industry experts with thematic breakout sessions, one-on-one business matching appointments, and a wide range of networking opportunities. The Honourable CY Leung, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR Government, will lead a Think Asia, Think Hong Kong delegation of more than 140 senior business and government leaders to the United States. Nearly 2,000 U.S. corporate leaders, government officials, heads of small and medium-sized enterprises, services providers, academics, and opinion leaders with a special interest in Asia are expected to attend.

Speakers at the event include Francisco J. Sánchez, Under Secretary for International Trade, U.S. Department of Commerce; Ronnie C. Chan, Chairman, Hang Lung Properties Ltd; Norman TL Chan, Chief Executive, Hong Kong Monetary Authority; Dr William Fung, Group Chairman, Li & Fung Ltd; Maurice Greenberg, Chairman and CEO, CV Starr & Co, Inc; and U.S. Section Chair, Hong Kong-United States Business Council, among many others.

Along with the New York and Los Angeles symposiums, Think Asia, Think Hong Kong will feature a number of thematic sessions in each city. These sessions will explore partnership opportunities in trade, technology, and Chinese outbound investment. In addition, a spotlight on renminbi business prospects will take place in New York while, in Los Angeles, a special focus on helping the US entertainment business expand in Asia will be offered.

Despite its small population and area, Hong Kong is the world's tenth largest trading economy.  With more than 90 percent of GDP coming from the services sector, Hong Kong is the world's most services-oriented economy and is one of the world's top exporters of garments, watches and clocks, toys, games, and electronic products. 

Attendees at Think Asia, Think Hong Kong will have the chance to receive the latest market intelligence as well as best practices for doing business with Asia, making it the perfect opportunity for both large and small companies to expand their knowledge and their business goals. Think Asia, Think Hong Kong is organized by the HKTDC, with support from 14 Hong Kong partners and more than 120 U.S. organizations.
