AS/COA Appoints Andrés Gluski as New Chairman

Americas Society and Council of the Americas welcome The AES Corporation president and CEO as the new chairman of their boards.

New York, October 14, 2015 — Americas Society and Council of the Americas (AS/COA) are pleased to announce the appointment of Andrés Gluski as the new chairman of the organizations’ boards. Mr. Gluski is President and CEO of The AES Corporation and joined the Council of the Americas board in 2010 and the Americas Society board in 2015. He replaces Ambassador John D. Negroponte, who has chaired AS/COA since 2009 and will become chairman emeritus for a three-year term.

"It is a great honor to be taking on the chairmanship of Americas Society and Council of the Americas," said Mr. Gluski. "In the time that I have worked with the organizations I have witnessed the positive impact and influence they have across the hemisphere. I look forward to collaborating with my fellow board members and the AS/COA leadership team to advance our strategic objectives and follow in the steps of David Rockefeller when he founded the organizations more than 50 years ago."

Mr. Gluski held several leadership positions at AES prior to being named President & CEO in 2011. Before joining AES in 2000, Mr. Gluski held senior positions in banking, telecom, multilaterals, and the public sector. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University and earned his MA and PhD in economics from the University of Virginia. He has been invited to serve as an expert witness at U.S. Congressional hearings on the subject of energy policy and Latin America. In 2012, Latin Trade magazine named him “International CEO of the Year” and he currently serves on U.S. President Barack Obama’s Export Council, the U.S.-Brazil CEO Forum, and the U.S.-India CEO Forum. He is a member of the board of The AES Corporation and Waste Management, and is chairman of AES Gener in Chile and AES Brasiliana in Brazil. He is also director of the Edison Electric Institute and the U.S.-Philippines Society.

"We are thrilled to welcome Andrés as our new chairman of the board of Americas Society and Council of the Americas," said AS/COA President and CEO Susan Segal. "As one of the most senior Hispanic CEOs among Fortune 500 companies, he brings extraordinary knowledge and corporate experience as well as a vast network of pan-regional government and private-sector contacts to the role."

Commenting on his transition to the chairman emeritus role, Ambassador Negroponte said, "It has been an honor to have chaired the boards of Americas Society and Council of the Americas and to have collaborated with such committed team of colleagues for the past six years. Moreover I am delighted to be able to transfer the chair of the organizations to someone as accomplished as Andrés Gluski. I am confident that under his leadership AS/COA will continue to contribute to the promise of this hemisphere."
