AS/COA's Susan Segal and Eric Farnsworth Participate in APEC's 2024 CEO Summit in Peru

Segal, AS/COA's president & CEO, interviewed Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about trade and Robert F. Smith of Vista Equity Partners about AI.

LIMA, PERU, November 15, 2024Susan Segal, president & CEO of Americas Society/Council of the Americas, moderated a fireside chat with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Canadian Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development Mary Ng during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit Peru 2024 held in Lima this week.

For the third time in its history, the APEC Summit is being held in Peru, bringing together the leaders of the 21 member economies. APEC is an intergovernmental institution based in Singapore where policies and strategies are discussed to promote free trade among the countries of the Pacific Rim.

On Friday, November 15, Segal spoke with Prime Minister Trudeau and Minister Ng about the role of trade in women's participation in the economy and the trade links between Canada and the United States. The conversation also focused on artificial intelligence and Canada's energy sector, among other topics.

At the summit, Segal also spoke about artificial intelligence and its impact on the labor market of the future with Robert F. Smith, chairman & CEO of Vista Equity Partners.

Eric Farnsworth, vice president of AS/COA, Washington, DC office, participated in a panel titled "Fostering Deeper Integration in the Pacific," which explored how infrastructure, maritime, and air logistics advancements within APEC are vital to accelerating trade efficiency.
