AS/COA's policy director talks to Marketplace/Quartz about Cuba's expanding non-state sector.
"Starting a business in any country is extremely challenging," said AS/COA's Alana Tummino. "Being an entrepreneur in Cuba, I think, is even more challenging." AS/COA's policy director spoke on Actuality, a new podcast by Marketplace and Quartz, about Cuba's moves to expand its non-state sector. "In Cuba, everyone is on the state payroll," said Tummino, adding that the government will have to make significant changes to meet its goal of having two in five workers in the private sector. She also discussed the opportunities for foreign investors, noting that countries such as Brazil, China, and Spain are quickly jumping on the bandwagon.
