Eric Farnsworth on Al Jazeera: Biden's Immigration Policies
"We need to get back to be seen as a country that welcomes migrants in an orderly, responsible way," said the AS/COA vice president.
Council of the Americas' Vice President Eric Farnsworth spoke to Al Jazeera's Adrian Finighan about how President-elect Joe Biden's administration will approach immigration.
"I think it’s at the very top priority. You're going start seeing as early as this week the new Biden administration make some proposals and some moves to reform the U.S. immigration policies," said Farnsworth. When asked if Joe Biden's administration will have more compassionate immigration policies, Farnsworth replied, "absolutely."
"People who come to the United States are doing so because they want to contribute to the United States," said Farnsworth. "I think we need to get back to be seen as a country that welcomes migrants in an orderly, responsible way than the impression that has presented to the world for the last four years."
On Mexico-U.S. relations, Farnsworth said that the relationship between both countries is a priority for the incoming administration. "Mexico is of strategic importance to the United States. We share an almost 2000-mile border, the trade and economic relationship is fundamental, the security relationship," said Farnsworth.
