Music of the Americas: En Casa, Recuerdos, and Concert Video Release

En Casa continues with Cuban musicians, Recuerdos takes us back to 2010, and we release the video of the multicultural band Mexamorphosis.

En Casa brings back the duo of Juan Diego Villalobos and Gina D'Soto and introduces a new duo featuring Cuban musicians Pepo Herrera and Marita Rodríguez. Recuerdos is back with a song from Mary Jane Lamond's 2010 concert in our hall.

On Friday, we release the video of the concert by Mexamorphosis, recorded in November 2022 in collaboration with the Mexico Now! festival.

Recuerdos: Mary Jane Lamond

Tuesday, April 4, 10 am

In 2010, Canadian singer and composer Mary Jane Lamond was on our stage sharing beautiful Gaelic music from Nova Scotia with a band that included her long-rime collaborators Wendy MacIsaac, fiddle; Chris Corrigan, guitar; Ed Woodsworth, bass; and Geoff Arsenault, percussion.

From that concert, we share "Cumha Aoghnuis," a traditional song that portrays the defiant lament of a woman contemplating the death of loved ones at sea.

En Casa: Juan Diego Villalobos and Gina D'Soto

Wednesday, April 5, 10 am

The duo is back with a third video, this time with a composition by D' Soto, "Si se trata de cariño."

En Casa: Pepo Herrera and Marita Rodríguez

Thursday, April 6, 10 am

Cuban clarinetist and singer Pepo Herrera was born in Matanzas and studied clarinet at the Escuela Nacional de Música and the Universidad de las Artes in Havana. He has been on the Music of the Americas stage as a singer with Ars Longa de La Habana in 2017 (with whom he also performed extensively in Europe) and as Papá Montero in Americas Society's production of the opera Manita en el suelo in 2022. In collaboration with pianist Marita Rodríguez, he sent us two videos with pieces by Argentine composer Carlos Guastavino, recorded at Herrera's home in South Florida.

Today we share "Rosita Iglesias," the seventh of a series of nine musical portraits of imaginary characters that Guastavino composed in the 1950s and 1960s.
