En Casa: Batimento Dúo

Monday, November 25, 10 am

Batimento Dúo is a Uruguayan tango guitar duo formed by Andrés Rey and Ignacio Correa. They perform their original arrangements at festivals in Uruguay and abroad. They have also published the bookTangos Uruguayos, which features guitar arrangements and a history of tango in the country. Their first album, Marginal, was nominated for best tango album at the 21st Graffiti Awards.

From Montevideo, they sent us two videos. On November 25, we share their version of "El apache argentino," an early tango by Manuel Aróztegui.

En Casa: Leo Méndez Ríos

Tuesday, November 26, 10 am

Argentine guitarist Leo Méndez Ríos performs various genres of his country's traditional music, as well as rock, blues, and flamenco. He has taught folk dancing and given workshops on music and dance for decades. He has also published experimental music albums and worked as a sessionist. In 2024, he was recognized with a special mention as a solo instrumentalist at the Festival Nacional del Malambo in Laborde, Córdoba and the Festival de Música Popular Argentina Baradero in Buenos Aires.

From La Paz, a city by the Paraná river in Entre Ríos, he sent us "La viajera," an instrumental chamarrita (a typical genre from the province) with interpolations of other genres, including milonga.
