En Casa: Pablo Bas

Wednesday, October 16, 10 am

Pablo Bas is an Argentine composer, sound artist and designer, producer, and teacher. He composes electroacoustic, instrumental, and mixed music, and creates sound installations and music for multimedia projects and stage performances. His works have been presented at festivals, concerts, and exhibition halls in several countries. For several years, he has also been creating sound maps from his own field recordings and directs collective sound mapping projects. He directs the Audio and Music Production program at the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional in Buenos Aires.

He sent us two improvisatory pieces from his balcony overlooking Buenos Aires. On October 16 we share "Suspensiva." Both pieces start with a set of acoustic, electronic, and digital sound devices. Synthetic sounds, modeled with real-time sound processing, are designed to articulate timbrally with the acoustic sources, in this case suspended cymbals played with artisanal mallets, scrapers, and a small drumstick. All sound is produced in real time, without pre-recorded sequences or formal plans. It is the improvisatory impulse itself that guides the discourse and creates the sonic textures and  environments.

In March 2024, the two outstanding singers gave their first live show together with their trios—Rogério Boccato and Vinícius Gomes with Herrera and Teco Cardoso and Nelson Ayres with Salmaso.

Their show was a tour of the Latin American songbook, with songs by Violeta Parra, Tom Jobim, and many others, and original songs by Herrera.
