Music of the Americas: Trios

This week, we feature trios from Honduras, Mexico, and Argentina working in a variety of musical styles.

Nicaraguan singer-songwriter Ceshia Ubau, who was on our series last season, selected a group of Central American artists for a series of En Casa videos from the region. This week, we share a new video by Yuri Pineda and his trio. From Argentina, Santiago Álvarez joins us again with his trio Chúcara, and we close the week with the video of Low Frequency Trio's concert on our stage this past April.

En Casa: Yuri Pineda

Monday, October 30, 10 am

From Honduras, Yuri Pineda, Diego Rivera, and Paul Cruz are back with another of Pineda's compositions, "Contra reloj," which the author describes as an embrace of loneliness and a hymn to resilience.

En Casa: Chúcara Trío

Wednesday, November 1, 10 am

Chúcara (Santiago Álvarez on harmonica, singer Alfredo Pittis, and bassist Willy González) are an Argentine trio that performs traditional music in a non-traditional configuration. The members have had successful international careers as soloists with a variety of groups and are active as educators in Argentina.

From Buenos Aires, they sent us this electrifying version of the 1965 classic milonga "El conventillo," popularized by the orchestra of Aníbal Troilo.
