Poll Tracker: Uruguay's 2024 Presidential Runoff
The margins are slim heading into November’s vote between the Broad Front’s Yamandú Orsi and the National Party’s Álvaro Delgado.
On November 24, Uruguayans will choose between the center-left and center-right for their next president.
Vying for the country’s highest office are Yamandú Orsi of the left-of-center Broad Front coalition and Álvaro Delgado of the National Party, which leads the incumbent Republican Coalition government. The winner will replace President Luis Lacalle Pou (2020–present), who cannot run for immediate re-election, per Uruguay’s constitution. A victory for Orsi would mean a return to power for the Broad Front coalition that governed Uruguay for 15 years, from 2005 to 2020.
Orsi and Delgado emerged from a field of 11 presidential nominees in the first round of voting held on October 27. Orsi and the Broad Front led October’s vote, winning 43.9 percent of the votes, while Delgado and the National Party had 26.8 percent, both below the 50 percent needed to win outright. Ahead of the runoff, however, party leaders in the ruling Republican Coalition have united behind Delgado, potentially bolstering his path to the presidency with an additional 20 percent of the first-round vote share.
