Susan Segal was elected President and CEO of Americas Society/Council of the Americas in 2003 after working in the private sector with Latin America and other emerging markets for over 30 years. Prior to her appointment, she was a partner at Chase Capital Partners/JPMorgan Partners, focusing on private equity in Latin America and pioneering early stage venture capital investing in the region. As a banker, her emphasis included investment banking; building an emerging-market bond-trading unit; and the debt crisis of the 1980s and 1990s, during which she chaired the Chilean and Philippine Advisory Committees. A passionate supporter of Latin America, she is considered one of the most prominent business leaders in the region. Under her decade-old tenure Americas Society and Council of the Americas, the two organizations established by David Rockefeller almost half a century ago have gained in stature, outreach, and relevance.
"I have enormous respect for everything [Chile] has done to be where it is today," said Susan Segal, as she accepted the honor. "[Chileans] gave me a very special opportunity as a woman, because they were willing to trust me with something very important, which was chairing the Creditors Committee. For me, Chile was always special—a second home."
