Monterrey 2014 Blog: Welcoming Remarks
The CEOs of AS/COA and ProMéxico kicked off the conference by outlining the potential effects of Mexico's reforms.
Speakers:
- Susan Segal, President & CEO, AS/COA
- Francisco González, CEO, ProMéxico
AS/COA's Susan Segal opened the organization's first conference in Monterrey, Mexico by highlighting the country’s growing economy and potential benefits of the new energy reform. With exports representing 60 percent of the country’s GDP, the industrial sector could expand, given the fact that it's Mexico's second largest energy consumer.

The following speaker, ProMéxico CEO Francisco González, emphasized this point. “Mexico ranks sixth among countries with the largest shale reserves,” said González, “and third among the most attractive countries for investment in solar energy.” Both speakers pointed to Nuevo León as a state poised to benefit from energy reform, since it is already among the country's most competitive states.

A major industrial hub, Nuevo Leon will see companies of all sizes pay less for electricity and gas as a result of the reform, said González.
ProMexico: Businesses in Nuevo León currently pay energy prices 50% higher than Texas. One goal of reform is reduce that. #MTYcompite
