The Council of the Americas held the 38th Annual Washington Conference on the Americas on May 6 and 7, drawing together a selection of the region's most influential officials—including the presidents of the United States and Panama—to address the most pressing policy issues affecting the Western Hemisphere.

In 2007, AS/COA reached more leaders from the public and private sectors, consolidating our position as the preeminent forum for the discussion of hemispheric issues. We hosted more Latin American Cities conferences than ever before, debuted our policy journal, launched a new website, and held a series of Argentine cultural programs. In 2008, AS/COA launched new initiatives bringing together leaders of the public and private sectors, hosting approximately 170 programs in New York, Washington DC, Miami, and Latin America. In 2007, AS/COA hosted more Latin American Cities Conferences than ever before. Conferences and related private and working group events took place in Mexico, El Salvador, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Peru, and Bolivia.
AS/COA hosted leaders from the Americas during the month of the UN General Assembly, including presidents of Bolivia; Chile; Colombia; Costa Rica; Dominican Republic; El Salvador; Guatemala; Honduras; Ecuador; and the leading Argentinean presidential candidate.
