Assistant/Associate Curator, Art

The Art at Americas Society program boasts the longest-standing space in the United States dedicated to exhibiting and promoting art from Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada. Since the mid-1960s, Americas Society has been producing both historical and contemporary exhibitions, publications, and public programs featuring outstanding artists, curators, critics, and scholars. Promoting a plural view of culture from the continent, Americas Society has achieved a unique and renowned leadership position in the field. 

We are seeking a full-time assistant or associate curator to support the Art department and provide intellectual, logistical, and production assistance for our exhibition and publication program. Reporting to the director and chief curator, the candidate will help shape research-driven exhibitions and publications. 

The position is focused on research and on the production of editorial and web content for exhibitions, publications, and programs. The candidate will also coordinate the production of Art at Americas Society’s publications, acting as assistant or associate editor by supervising content production, timelines, and budgets. 

Working within a team environment, the candidate will collaborate with our curatorial assistant and our assistant curator of Public Programs, supervise researchers and interns, and steward relationships with collectors, donors, dealers, and artists. 

The successful candidate will have expertise in Latin American art history and research experience in the field. An MA in Art History or a related field is required; PhD is preferred. Assistant curator is expected to have at least 3 years of experience and Associate curator 5 years of experience. They will have organized exhibitions; worked on publications; a record of scholarly publication; and a commitment to increasing access to knowledge. They will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex projects. Proficiency in Spanish and or Portuguese is required. 

Title and salary commensurate with experience. Salary ranges are assistant curator: $50,000-$55,000; associate curator: $60,000-$67,000. 

Employees are currently working a hybrid schedule, consisting of three days in the office and two days working from home. Depending on programming, employes may need to come to the office more than three days a week given programs scheduled. Work Schedule: Full time. Occasional evening hours or weekend hours as needed for public programs and/or curatorial projects.
