Americas Quarterly is an award-winning publication dedicated to politics, business, and culture in the Americas. Borrowing elements from The Economist and Foreign Affairs, but with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean, AQ reaches more than 1 million people per year through its digital platforms, magazine, and podcast. Its influential, agenda-setting audience includes CEOs, senior government officials, and thought leaders. Founded in 2007 and based in New York City, AQ is an editorially independent, not-for-profit publication of the Americas Society/Council of the Americas, which for more than 50 years have been dedicated to dialogue in the Western Hemisphere.

We seek an Editor to join our nimble and multitasking team of professionals and work with AQ’s network of accomplished authors. This role must be based in New York City, and we are currently operating on a hybrid schedule. It is ideal for a talented editor with sharp news judgment, a passion for Latin America, and a proven ability to edit and produce high-quality analysis while collaborating across teams. This position is also responsible for AQ’s social media accounts.

You’ll report to the Managing Editor.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with contributors, writers, and editors to craft compelling pieces on key topics that matter to our audience.
  • Remain current on the news and generate ideas for potential articles under our editorial style.
  • Able to produce articles under own byline, from a Q&A to a well-rounded profile of a prominent newsmaker.
  • Develop and lead social media outreach tactics to grow our community over time, using diverse social media platforms.

You’ll need:

  • A minimum BA in journalism, communications, international affairs, or a relevant field is required.
  • Exceptional editing talent and writing skills. You have a fluent command of the English language, and you are a wordsmith capable of communicating complex and relevant issues where politics and the economy usually intersect.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills. Collaboration is key in our editorial team.
  • A deep interest in Latin America’s politics, economic, and cultural processes.
  • At least three years of experience in a digital or daily publication.
  • Two+ years of experience in editing/contributing with writers.
  • Knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese is desirable.
  • Being well-versed in WordPress, InDesign, Photoshop, or similar multimedia software will be a plus.

Conditions:

  • This position is based in New York City, NY.
  • The salary range for this position is $70,000-$76,000
  • Flexible hybrid schedule; excellent health and dental plan, vacation, and generous 401(k) retirement plan.
