Alejandro Escuer (b. 1963) is a Mexican multidisciplinary artist and flutist who is at ease performing as a soloist with symphony orchestra, chamber ensembles, or performing solo recitals. He has captivated audiences with his commitment to and delight in performing a unique selection of original works, ranging from established masterpieces to new Latin American works and his own compositions and improvisations. 

The Postmodern Flute Project starts this year and will continue for several years with new pieces, commissions, and premieres until 2034, when Escuer plans to dedicate his time fully to composing.

• Gonzalo Macías (1958): Maquin-Son (2023), for alto flute and electroacoustic music
• Jorge Verdin (1965-2024): Maquinaria (2017), for flute, video, and electroacoustic manipulation
• Gabriela Ortiz (1964): Tres haikus (2015), for flute, voice, and electroacoustic voices (with soprano Carla López Speciale)

Intermission

Escuer has been a driving force in the Mexican new music scene for decades and been the artistic director and producer of more than one hundred and fifty concerts featuring over fifty premieres. He has received numerous prizes and awards in Mexico and abroad, including a Rockefeller Foundation Award (1995), The National Interpreters Competition (first prize), and many others. He is also on the faculty at the Escuela Nacional de Música of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and has delivered master classes and concert-lectures across the Americas. He has developed new expressive instrumental techniques and technologies for his instrument. 

Alejandro Escuer holds degrees from Conservatorio Nacional de Música, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, the Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam, and earned his doctorate from New York University. He has recorded over a dozen albums as a soloist and music director.
