Overview

Council of the Americas held a public discussion on Caribbean trade with Ambassador Richard Bernal, Caribbean executive director at the Inter-American Development Bank.

Bernal discussed his new book Globalization, Trade, and Economic Development: The Cariforum-EU Economics Partnership Agreement, which gives an in-depth analysis of the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement for which he was a lead negotiator. Though the trade and development partnership between the two regions has existed for over 30 years, this trade agreement has changed the dynamics of the relationship, bringing more sustainable development and balance to the table. In his book, Bernal offers insights as to the impact this agreement will have on the future of trade and economic development between the Caribbean and European Union.
