Fake news presents a growing threat to western democracies, especially in Latin America, which has faced major general elections this year in Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico, among other countries, and will face more next year, such as Argentina's presidential election. These societies are deeply polarized and are vulnerable to misinformation, with rumors flying over social media apps like WhatsApp faster than traditional media can keep up.

Join Americas Society/Council of the Americas (AS/COA), Young Professionals of the Americas (YPA), and El Club de la República for a conversation about the infiltration of misinformation in Latin America, what we can do to authenticate news, and how media, businesses, government, and individuals can respond to these challenges and strengthen democracies in the region.
