Overview

This event is free of charge. Prior registration is required.

“Fake news” presents a growing threat to western democracies. Latin America, which will hold three major general elections in Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico this year is facing similar challenges. These societies are deeply polarized and are vulnerable to misinformation with rumors flying over social media apps, like WhatsApp, faster than traditional media can keep up. Join Americas Society/Council of the Americas (AS/COA), Young Professionals of the Americas (YPA), and Llorente & Cuenca for a conversation about the infiltration of misinformation in Latin America, the potential for meddling from foreign entities, and what the media, businesses, government, and individuals can do to respond to these challenges and strengthen democracies in the region.

Speakers:

  • Luisa García, Partner and COO of Latin America, Llorente & Cuenca @luisagarcia
  • Alana Tummino, Senior Director, Americas Society/Council of the Americas; Executive Director, Young Professionals of the Americas @AlanaTummino
