Overview
Music of the Americas continues its online video series En Casa (At Home), featuring original daily performances with musicians from around the Americas, and Recuerdos (Memories), weekly releases of memorable past performances at the Americas Society, some available for the first time.
Our Recuerdos series takes a brief hiatus this week as we dedicate this week to focus on our En Casa series highlighting a few talented musicians.
Follow Music of the Americas on Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter to watch and receive notifications of all the performances. We also publish weekly calendars here on our website, including all the videos, so you can return to this page to catch up on any performances you might have missed.

En Casa: Cecilia Zabala
Facebook
Cecilia Zabala appeared on our stage in 2015 and has been busy composing and recording since then. She sent us "La otra mitad" (The Other Half), which appeared in her 2016 release El color del silencio. She tells us that "It is inspired in the contemplation of 'the other': what is a complement, what is still to be done, what is still necessary to arrive... where? It is also a meditation on empathy and the desire to understand other people.”

Yuri Juárez is back with more Peruvian fire, this time joined by master of Afro Peruvian percussion Huevito Lobatón. They sent us a two-part video starting with an improvisation on the traditional Landó rhythm, and following it with Juan Criado's "Arroz con Concolón".

En Casa: Alejandro Escuer
Facebook
Flutist and composer Alejandro Escuer has performed in our series several times, alone and with his Ónix Ensemble, one of the most enduring chamber ensembles in the hemisphere. From his home in Mexico City, he sent us his newly composed "Odd Beatbox," a brief solo flute piece commissioned by Americas Society, for the online En Casa series. The piece explores the percussive sounds of the flute, like key clicks, tongue pizzicati, and other sounds frequently used in contemporary classical music, and is performed as the popular beatboxing, breaking its “rules” with odd rhythms. The video is edited by the composer so that cuts and changes of color of the images are part of the piece.
