Music of the Americas: Jeporeká 2021
The second edition of this project created by Paraguayan guitarist Berta Rojas is dedicated to the art of songwriting.
Overview
Jeporeká is a musical project created by Paraguayan guitarist Berta Rojas, who was last on our virtual stage in 2020. The initiative, launched last year, aims to promote musical creation in her native country, offering young artists the possibility to collaborate in the creation of new compositions. Due to the pandemic, the first two iterations of the project have taken place online, with the final compositions recorded professionally in Paraguay.
In 2021, Jeporeká focused on the creation of songs, with students from throughout Paraguay organized in ten teams that included a composer, a singer, and a poet. Over the course of six weeks in the austral winter, they attended online seminars with leading Latin American artists and worked on their new songs. The final pieces were recorded in Asunción in September.
On November 26 we will share the premiere of all the songs on our YouTube channel.
The MetLife Foundation Music of the Americas concert series is made possible by the generous support of Presenting Sponsor MetLife Foundation. The Fall 2020 Music program is also supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and the Howard Gilman Foundation.
