    The day of the opening debate of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, Americas Society/Council of the Americas hosted a private event where the rightful winner of the Venezuela election, Edmundo González, and the leader of the opposition, María Corina Machado, spoke via video conference. Both González and Machado spoke at the 2024 Washington Conference on the Americas. Machado participated in a Democracy Dialogues conversation in September.
