Overview

The puma: A powerful, fast, agile, lean, and discreet animal. It is a fitting mascot for Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Chile. These four countries along Latin America’s west coast have taken great economic strides in recent years, and they are poised to emerge as regional leaders. Like the animal, these Pacific Pumas are comfortable operating quietly, away from the spotlight. But their positive momentum is difficult to ignore, especially for Europe and the United States. For them, the Pacific Pumas offer economic opportunities and strategic partnerships. A new Bertelsmann Foundation report, The Pacific Pumas, highlights these advances and opportunities and will be presented at this event.

Speakers:

  • Harold W. Forsyth, Ambassador of Peru to the U.S.
  • Eduardo Medina Mora, Ambassador of Mexico to the U.S.
  • Luis Carlos Villegas, Ambassador of Colombia to the U.S.
  • Mauricio Hurtado, Chargé d'Affaires, Embassy of Chile to the U.S.
  • Antoni Estevadeordal, Manager, Integration and Trade Sector, Inter-American Development Bank
  • Samuel George, Project Manager, Bertelsmann Foundation
  • Annette Heuser, Executive Director, Bertelsmann Foundation (moderator)
