Can sustainability make money? For hotels it certainly can. Traditionally dubbed a topic for idealists or simply unrealistic investors, sustainability today provides an ideal framework by setting environmental, social, and governance goals to deliver enhanced asset performance. Oriol Gimenez, a partner at CPG Hospitality, a Latin America-focused hospitality private equity firm, discusses how his company uses sustainability key performance indicators (KPIs) to guide CPG’s asset management processes for the benefit of investors, employees, hotel guests, and the environment.

About the speakers:
Oriol Gimenez is a founding partner of CPG Hospitality, a hospitality private equity firm currently overseeing $500 million in hospitality investments. Gimenez has been involved in over $1 billion in private equity real estate transactions in the Caribbean and Latin America since joining CPG Real Estate in 2010. Previously, Gimenez was a manager at the Hospitality & Real Estate Advisory Group of Ernst & Young where he specialized in resort real estate development, strategic advisory, and transaction due diligence across the Americas. His professional career includes hospitality positions at Intercontinental Hotel Group, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, and Leading Hotels of the World in Europe and the United States. He received his business undergraduate degree from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain, and a masters of management in hospitality with honors from the Cornell School of Hotel Administration. He is a LEED accredited professional.
Ricardo Cervantes works in the Equity Capital Markets Group at Tishman Speyer. As part of Tishman Speyer’s Leadership Development Rotational Program, Cervantes worked with the company’s NYC Design and Construction Team and Mexico Regional Team. Previously, Cervantes founded two businesses in Mexico, focusing on customer loyalty (VivePlus S.A. de C.V.) and on construction (Materiales VICE S.A. de C.V.) and spent some time as an analyst in Merrill Lynch’s Debt Structuring Group. He completed a semester abroad in Salamanca, Spain, and a nine month internship at JP Morgan Mexico. In addition to AS/COA, Cervantes is a member of the advisory committee for Universidad CENTRO’s Master in Business Innovation Program and an advisor to Qualitas of Life Foundation. Cervantes holds an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and a BA in chemical engineering from Universidad Iberoamericana. Born and raised in Mexico City, Cervantes has a deep commitment to economic policy and development in Latin America. He also enjoys traveling and is an avid runner, skier, soccer player, and golfer.
