Overview

Join Young Professionals of the Americas for a live taping of the Council of the Americas series, Democracy Dialogues.

This episode will feature Franco Ordoñez, NPR White House correspondent, who will analyze the anticipated outcomes of the upcoming U.S. elections, highlight the key issues influencing voters, and explore the potential implications for Latin America and the Caribbean. The conversation will be moderated by Eric Farnsworth, vice president of the Council of the Americas and host of Democracy Dialogues.

After the taping, YPA members and guests attending this event will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in conversation with the speaker. A reception will follow the event.

Franco Ordoñez is a White House correspondent for NPR's Washington Desk. Before he came to NPR in 2019, Ordoñez covered the White House for McClatchy. He has also written about diplomatic affairs, foreign policy and immigration, and has been a correspondent in Cuba, Colombia, Mexico and Haiti. 

Ordoñez has received several state and national awards for his work, including the Casey Medal, the Gerald Loeb Award and the Robert F. Kennedy Award for Excellence in Journalism. He is a two-time reporting fellow with the International Center for Journalists, and is a graduate of Columbia Journalism School and the University of Georgia. 


The Democracy Dialogues is a series of conversations we need to be having now on the state of democracy in the Americas. Past guests have included Guatemala’s President Bernardo Arévalo, Colombia's then-President Iván Duque, OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro, CubaDecide founder Rosa María Payá, and many others.
