Boundless Reality: Traveler Artists' Landscapes of Latin America from the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection
This exhibition, jointly presented in two venues, focuses on the genre of Latin American traveler art of the nineteenth century. Auguste Morisot’s 1886 expedition up the Orinoco River serves as the centerpiece of Americas Society’s component of the exhibition, which includes photography, drawings, and prints. Morisot’s archive exemplifies the emergence of photography in the nineteenth century and its relationship to the conventions of painting and representing the exotic landscape. The exhibition is curated by Harper Montgomery, Hunter College’s Patricia Phelps de Cisneros professor in Latin American art, along with Hunter College MA and MFA students.

More than 150 works of art featuring Latin American landscapes are on display in Boundless Reality open at the America Society and Hunter College galleries until January 23.
Dazzling views of Latin America, rendered by an international mix of 19th-century artists are the subject of a pioneering show at Americas Society and the Hunter College Galleries.
Opening on February 11, the exhibition will showcase over 80 design objects from 1940 to 1978, all exemplifying the modernization of urban cities in Latin America.
