Don Baer
Don Baer is worldwide chair and CEO of Burson-Marsteller and chairman of Penn Scoen Berland. Prior to taking up these positions, he was the senior executive vice-president for strategy and development of Discovery Communications. Mr. Baer was also senior adviser to President Bill Clinton between 1994 and 1998, serving in roles such as director of strategic planning and communications, chief speechwriter and assistant to the president. He previously worked a journalist, reporting for publications such as U.S. News, World Report, The American Lawyer, The New York Times, and Politico, and as an analyst for CBS News. Mr. Baer was also a media lawyer at Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Tyler. He serves on the board of directors of PBS, the Urban Institute, and the News Literacy Project. Mr. Baer has been awarded two Writers Guild of America awards. He received a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master’s in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
