Eduardo Paes
Eduardo Paes is the mayor of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At the age of 23, Paes began his political career heading the municipal district of Jacarepagua and Barra. Three years later, he was elected to the Municipal Assembly, and in 1998, he was elected to the National Congress, where he served as chairman of the Budget Committee and a member of the commissions for Tax Reform and Parliamentary Investigation on Fraud. During the administration of Mayor Cesar Maia, Paes served as the municipal secretary for the environment. Paes also was the secretary of tourism, sports, and leisure and was involved in the organization of the 2007 Pan-American Games, as well as planning for the the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro. He graduated from law school at the Catholic University of Rio.
