Fatima Shama
Commissioner, New York City Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs
Fatima Shama is commissioner of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs. She was appointed to the position in 2009. In this role, she promotes the well-being of immigrants by recommending policies and programs that facilitate successful integration of immigrant New Yorkers into the civic, economic, and cultural life of the city. Previously, Ms. Shama served as senior education policy advisor at the Mayor's Office. She also served as executive director of the Greater Brooklyn Health Coalition. Ms. Shama earned a BA from Binghamton University and a Masters of Public Administration from Baruch College's School of Public Affairs Executive Program.
