Héctor Valdez Albizu
Héctor Valdez Albizu is an economist with a distinguished career in the financial and banking sector. He is the Governor of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic, a position he has held since 2004, with successive confirmations in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024. Throughout his tenure, he has played a crucial role in the country's macroeconomic stability and financial policy, earning multiple national and international distinctions, including the Orden al Mérito de Duarte, Sánchez y Mella, the Bernardo O’Higgins Order from the Chilean government, and several recognitions as Central Bank Governor of the Year by renowned financial publications.
He holds a degree in Economics from the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo and has pursued specialized training in monetary policy, public finance, and financial program design at institutions such as the International Monetary Fund. His professional career began at the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic, where he held key positions, including Director of the Economic Studies Department, Deputy Manager of Monetary, Exchange, and Financial Policy, and General Deputy Manager. He also served as Governor of the Central Bank from 1994 to 2000 and was General Administrator of the Banco de Reservas. Additionally, he has represented the Dominican Republic in major international economic negotiations and organizations such as the IMF, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the World Bank.
Héctor Valdez Albizu es un economista con una destacada trayectoria en el sector financiero y bancario. Es el Gobernador del Banco Central de la República Dominicana, cargo que ocupa desde 2004 y en el que ha sido ratificado sucesivamente en 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022 y 2024. Durante su gestión, ha desempeñado un papel clave en la estabilidad macroeconómica y la política financiera del país, recibiendo múltiples distinciones nacionales e internacionales, entre ellas la Orden al Mérito de Duarte, Sánchez y Mella, la Orden Bernardo O’Higgins del gobierno de Chile y varios reconocimientos como Gobernador del Año por prestigiosas publicaciones financieras.
Es economista egresado de la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, con formación especializada en política monetaria, finanzas públicas y diseño de programas financieros en instituciones como el Fondo Monetario Internacional. Su trayectoria profesional inició en el Banco Central de la República Dominicana, donde ocupó cargos clave como Director del Departamento de Estudios Económicos, Subgerente de Política Monetaria, Cambiaria y Financiera, y Subgerente General. También fue Gobernador del Banco Central entre 1994 y 2000, además de Administrador General del Banco de Reservas. Ha representado a la República Dominicana en negociaciones económicas internacionales y organismos como el FMI, el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo y el Banco Mundial.
