Humberto López
Humberto López is the World Bank country director for Central America (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama). In this capacity, he is responsible for the implementation of the bank’s country development strategy in the six Central American countries, as well as for a broad operational program that includes technical assistance, financing instruments and knowledge products. Previously, he was the director of the poverty reduction and economic management department in the Latin America and the Caribbean Region of the World Bank and also manager of the poverty reduction and economic management unit for East Africa. His professional experience in the World Bank includes relevant initiatives such as the Highly Indebted Poor Countries and the operational aspects of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers, or the introduction of social impact analysis in budgetary support operations. López has published extensively in a number of diverse areas such as fiscal policy, exchange rate, armed conflict, and growth, and is the editor of three books on free trade agreements, remittances and development, and investment climate in Latin America.
