João Doria
João Doria is the mayor of São Paulo. He won the election during the first round, winning a historic 53 percent of votes. Doria is also president (on leave) of GrupoDoria, founder and president (on leave) of the executive committee of LIDE (Grupo de Líderes Empresariais), an event promotion agency founded in 2003 with 1,700 national and multinational registered member companies, accounting for 52 percent of Brazil’s private GDP, and a member of the Deliberative Council of the Social Solidarity Fund of São Paulo State. He served as municipal tourism secretary and president of Paulistur from 1983 to 1986, under the management of Mário Covas, then-mayor of São Paulo. In 1984, Doria participated in the organization of the Diretas-Já campaign at the request of the São Paulo Governor André Franco Montoro. From 1986 to 1988, he served as chairman of Embratur and the National Council of Tourism. In 2001, Doria joined the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB), and in 2007, led the Cansei civic movement for the rights of Brazilians amid the Mensalão political scandal. From 1979 to 1982, he was director of communications of the broadcast television network Rede Bandeirantes of Television and, from 1981 to 1983, professor of marketing at Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation in São Paulo. Doria was also founder and vice president of the São Paulo Convention & Visitors Bureau. He hosted two television shows: Show Business on TV Bandeirantes and Face to Face on Rede BandNews. From 2010 to 2011, Doria hosted the reality show O Aprendiz. He also writes a monthly business column in Forbes Brasil. In 2012, for the fourth consecutive year, Doria was named one of the 100 most influential people of Brazil and of the world by ISTOÉ magazine. In 2014, he was named one of the 100 most reputable leaders of Brazil by the European company Merco.
