John Twichell
John Twichell is a Ph.D. (University of Miami, 2015) and lecturer in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Miami, where he instructs undergraduate courses in the Departments of International Studies, Latin American Studies, and Political Science. His course offerings are in the areas of international relations, international political economy, Latin American and Caribbean politics, Middle Eastern politics, and research methods. Dr. Twichell is the 2020 recipient of the American Political Science Association’s Michael Brintnall Distinguished Teaching & Learning Award. His research interests are focused broadly on development in the sovereign states of Latin America and the Middle East, and the influence national development patterns have on regional and international relations. Dr. Twichell conducted his dissertation fieldwork in Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico through research grants awarded to him by the Center for Latin American Studies and by Fulbright. He also previously served as a writer and editor for the Center for Hemispheric Policy at the University of Miami (2008-2013), where he contributed to numerous publications on issues of domestic and foreign policy that confront countries in the Western hemisphere. Dr. Twichell is currently researching rates of compliance with environmental standards established through the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015 by Latin American and Caribbean countries, while also researching Saudi Arabia's rise as a subregional hegemon on the Arabian Peninsula of the Middle East.
