Juan Miró is associate dean for undergraduate programs and distinguished professor in the School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin, as well as founder of Miró Rivera Architects. Prior to founding Miró Rivera Architects, he worked at Gwathmey Siegel & Associates in New York City from 1991 to 1996. Miró has been a licensed architect in Spain since 1988 and is a registered architect in the states of Texas and New York. He worked in Spain with his father, Antonio Miró, as well as with Fernando Higueras, Felix Candela, and Santiago Calatrava on a wide range of projects. Miró is an active member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and has served as a juror for several AIA design award competitions at the national, state, and local levels. He was elevated to the organization’s College of Fellows in recognition of his contributions to the profession and to society in 2011. He obtained his professional degree at the Escuela de Arquitectura of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Miró was a Fulbright scholar, completing a post-professional master’s at Yale University, where he was awarded the William Edward Parsons Memorial Medal. The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture named him a distinguished professor, and he is a member of UT Austin's Academy of Distinguished Teachers. In 2015, he received the Texas Society of Architects’ Award for Outstanding Educational Contributions in Honor of Edward Romieniec, FAIA as well as the UT Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award.
