Kathleen Kennedy Townsend
Kathleen Kennedy Townsend is Maryland's first woman lieutenant governor. The eldest child of Robert and Ethel Kennedy, she has taught foreign policy at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She has published articles in the New York Times, Washington Post, and Washington Monthly, among others. She founded the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award - an award whose recipients now include the Comadres of El Salvador, Adam Michnic of Poland and Naude of South Africa. Townsend currently serves on the boards of directors of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, Civic Works, the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, and the Institute for Human Virology. She previously served on the boards of the Export-Import Bank, the Wilderness Society, and the Baltimore Urban League and was chair of the Robert Kennedy Memorial.
