Kristin Kane
Kristin M. Kane serves as the principal deputy assistant secretary in the Bureau of Global Public Affairs. She is a career Senior Foreign Service officer with the rank of Minister Counselor. Ms. Kane most recently served as Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim, at Embassy Lisbon from 2019-2022. Her earlier foreign service tours include policy and public affairs work at Embassies Brasilia, Paris, Dakar (covering also Bissau), Maputo, Lisbon, and Consulate Lagos. In Washington, DC, Ms. Kane served as director of policy at the Office of the Inspector General and earlier worked on policy, press, and congressional issues in the Bureau of International Organizations. Ms. Kane holds a M.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley. Before joining the State Department, she was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guinea, a travel writer, and an NGO worker. She speaks French and Portuguese. She is originally from Los Angeles and Monterey, California.
