Leandro Daiello
Leandro Daiello is a partner at Warde Advogados and the former director general of Brazil’s federal police. He was a lawyer for nearly a decade and joined the federal police in 1995. Daiello later served as the chief of the Drug Enforcement Unit of the state of Rio Grande do Sul (SRS) from 2002 to 2004. Between 2004 and 2006, he was chief of the Tax Evasion and Smuggling Unit of the SRS, and later served as chief of the Tax Evasion and Smuggling National Unit from 2006 to 2007. Daiello served as the general coordinator for Tax Evasion, Smuggling and Environmental Crimes from 2007 to 2009, then as the head of the São Paulo state Unit of the Federal Police between 2009 and 2011. He became the director general of the federal police in 2011. During his tenure, the federal police started investigating the largest corruption case uncovered in Brazil, known as Operation Car Wash (Lava Jato). Daiello received a bachelor’s degree in law from the Law School of the Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul and an MBA in public security from Fundação Getúlio Vargas.
