Maria Silvia Bastos Marques
Maria Silvia Bastos Marques is the CEO of Empresa Olímpica Municipal (Municipal Olympic Company), the body of the city council of Rio de Janeiro responsible for coordinating the execution of all projects and activities in the city related to the 2016 Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games. Previously, Bastos held a number of positions in the public and private sectors, such as coordinator of the foreign area of the Special Secretariat for Economic Policy of the Treasury Department, financial director of the foreign and planning areas of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), the treasury secretary for the city of Rio de Janeiro, and chairwoman of Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CNS) and Grupo Icatu Seguros. She was a professor at the Department of Economics at Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and a researcher for the Brazilian Institute of Economics at Fundação Getúlio Vargas in Rio de Janeiro (FGV/RJ). Bastos holds a Bachelor’s degree in public administration, and a Master’s and Doctorate degree in economics from FGV/RJ.
