Santiago Urbiztondo was appointed chief economist for the Fundación de Investigaciones Económicas Latinoamericanas (FIEL) in 2008. He has also been director of the Department of Regulatory Studies since 1998. Urbiztondo also worked as consultant for the OECD office in Paris and the Inter-American Development Bank, and served as president of the competition authority in Argentina in 2001. Urbiztondo received his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is currently a professor of economics at the University of La Plata.
