Audio: Latin Pulse's Uruguay Election Preview

</p> <p>As Uruguay heads to a runoff on November 30, AS/COA’s Christopher Sabatini spoke to Latin Pulse about the country’s presidential election. Former President Tabaré Vázquez of the Broad Front fell short of winning during the first round on October 26, garnering 48 percent of the vote, with opposition candidate Luis Lacalle Pou coming in second. Regardless of who wins the second round, “it’ll be a gentle shift” for Uruguay, Sabatini said. Though he’s second in the polls, Lacalle Pou represents a “fresh face,” Sabatini added, and it would be interesting to see how the Broad Front would reposition itself to cultivate a new set of leaders. Still, Vázquez has an advantage. Given the former president’s popularity, the race is “his to lose,” said Sabatini.</p>
