"If you can solve a problem in Colombia, if you can solve a problem in Mexico, you can solve a problem anywhere in the world," said Adolfo Babatz, the founder and CEO of Clip during a discussion on Latin America's technology panorama at the 27th COA Symposium and BRAVO Business Awards. He compared Latin America's tech situation to Israel, a country whose security issues have resulted in security-related innovation.
Brynne McNulty Rojas, the co-founder and CEO of Habi, said that when she moved to Colombia, she found it surprising how little information there was online. That experience helped her identify a gap in the market. Her advice to businesses in an ecosystem of crisis is to "keep your head down" and focus on a direct line to profit.
Hernan Kazah, the co-founder of Kaszek, said he remains hopeful about the future of tech in Latin America and how it can enrich people's lives over time. "With technology, we're going to be able to solve or at least to narrow the gap that we have around financial inclusion, access to your own house, access to healthcare." He said these long-term trends are positive even with short-term failures.
