AS/COA Women’s Hemispheric Network Commemorates One Year Promoting the Power of Mentoring and Networking

For over a year, the network has convened women in the United States and across Latin America to share their experiences and discuss what young women can do to reach leadership positions.

New York, October 28, 2013—Gender diversity and women’s empowerment may be at the top of the agenda for business and governments, but amid debates of leaning in and having it all, one fact remains: mentoring and networking help shape successful and rewarding careers. For over a year in the United States and across Latin America, Americas Society/Council of the Americas’ Women’s Hemispheric Network has brought together women at different stages of their professional careers, including entrepreneurs and leaders from the public and private sector, to share their experiences and discuss what young women can do to reach leadership positions.

On October 11, at the Network's second annual all-day event in New York, a diverse group of accomplished female leaders advised and inspired more than 180 young female talents on topics like finding the right career sponsors and leveraging professional and personal contacts. The event, headlined by 85 Broads’ Business Leader Sallie Krawcheck and former First Lady of Mexico and ex-Congresswoman Margarita Zavala, took place following a series of workshops and round tables this year that promoted AS/COA’s initiative to audiences in Bogotá, Buenos Aires, and Mexico City. AS/COA will continue building its regional initiative in 2013 with events in Lima and Miami.

Participants in the Second Annual AS/COA Networking Event and Workshop included: Angelica Fuentes, CEO, Grupo Omnilife-Angelissima-Chivas; Patricia Menéndez Cambó, Chair, Global Practice, Greenberg Traurig, LLP; Luisa Menezes, Vice President & Associate General Counsel, PMI Global Services; Adriana Noreña, General Director of Spanish Speaking Latin America, Google; Denise Pavarina, deputy managing director of Banco Bradesco and Chairman of the Brazilian Financial and Capital Markets Association (ANBIMA); Antonia Stolper, Partner, Shearman & Sterling LLP; Blanca Treviño, President and Chief Executive Officer, Softtek; and Susan Segal, President & CEO, Americas Society/Council of the Americas.
