  • Watch the live webstreaming of the panel discussions at 3PM ET at state.gov

The Summit is part of the Caribbean Energy Security Initiative announced by Vice President Biden in 2014, and will convene government, finance, and private sector leaders from the United States and the Caribbean, along with representatives of the international community, to discuss energy governance and diversification, greater access to finance, and donor coordination.

"This is a highly relevant and well-timed initiative," said Council of the Americas Vice President Eric Farnsworth. "Caribbean nations are suffering from precarious fiscal situations and these issues must be addressed proactively."

Over the past years the Council of the Americas’ Energy Action Group has hosted forums in cities across the Americas and published working papers and recommendations on key energy topics. The Caribbean Energy Security Summit will include high-level discussions with Caribbean leaders and will feature World Bank President Jim Kim and Inter-American Development Bank President Luis Alberto Moreno.

Portions of the Summit, which will take place at the Department of State, will be open to pre-credentialed members of the media. All media representatives wishing to cover the Summit and/or to enter the media filing center can apply for a media credential by no later than Tuesday, January 20, 2015. The Accreditation Application Form is available now. Please email the completed form to summitmedia@state.gov.
